Dr. Grace was invited to the classroom of Ms. Augusta Pearce at Long Creek High School, New Braunfels, Texas, via the Skype A Scientist program. Dr. Grace was honored to speak to a group of inaugural AP Biology students for a life and career chat. Dr. Grace shared tips for healthcare career planning alongside research. Different health professions were discussed as well as educational pathways. In this group of just under 20 students, Dr. Grace had an opportunity to speak with students 1:1 briefly over the call, where each student expressed their current interests in biology and the health sciences.

Dr. Grace was invited by teacher Ms. Shawna Ruedy into two classrooms this past May, to assist nearly 45 Grade 6 students with a project "From Mess to Masterpiece: Reimagining the Cafeteria" at Babcock Neighborhood School in Babcock Ranch, Florida via Skype A Scientist.
The presentations involved sharing research insights into psychologically-informed social and environmental factors that can overcome current challenges in the lunchtime hour. Key takeaway messages included that lunchtime should be considered as a social learning period, and when combined with guided and supervised physical activity opportunities, this can translate into better experience, learning, and teacher outcomes in and outside of the classroom. Longer lunch times such as 30 minutes, with physical activity choices and adequate supervision, expectations, and structure, alongside healthy food choices, signage, and clear consequences for anti-social or disruptive behavior were also ideas suggested. Since students may be going through challenges outside the school environment, providing spaces for students whose needs are not being met in a common cafeteria but at the same time can be inclusive and separate could be ways forward to maximize choice and inclusivity. Bullying was also acknowledged as an evidence-based factor that leads to poor outcomes, that can be mitigated when there is adequate supervision and structure at lunchtime and where authority figures in the school are visible and engaged. The class was going to present their insights at the Cafeteria Solutions Summit May 28.
